If you are looking for a children’s dentist in the Jacksonville area, call our office today for an appointment! You’ll be glad you chose us as your child’s dental home.
Cleanings & Exams
Our team can provide a cleaning and examination for your child, which can help to thoroughly remove plaque, tartar, and food debris from the teeth and detect any potential problems. Early diagnosis and treatment can often prevent larger issues from developing. Some of the things that our team may look for include:
- Cavities
- Gum disease
- Tooth decay
- Misaligned teeth
- Broken or chipped teeth
During your child’s dental cleaning, their teeth will be brushed, flossed, and polished. At this time, our team may ask you or your child questions about their brushing and flossing habits, eating behaviors, or any other concerns that may impact their oral health. It is important to take great care in answering these questions and incorporating any offered feedback. This will help ensure that their teeth stay healthy and strong.
Wisdom Teeth Removal
The removal of wisdom teeth, or third molars, is done to prevent potential future problems. These teeth usually come in between the ages of 15 and 25 years old. They can cause problems such as crowding of other teeth, infection, and cysts. Removal is usually suggested if the tooth is impacted (cannot come in properly), infected, or has a large cyst. Wisdom teeth that have not caused any problems do not need to be removed, but may be removed to prevent the potential for these problems later in life.
There are a couple of ways that wisdom teeth can be removed.
- The most common way is to remove them through surgery. During the surgery, the dentist will make an incision in the gum tissue and remove the tooth. Wisdom teeth are often removed through this method because the tooth roots are located deep in the jaw, making them difficult to remove without incisions.
- The other way that wisdom teeth can be removed is by carefully pulling the tooth. However, this can only be performed if the tooth has already emerged.
Our office does not perform this procedure; however, we are able to provide oral surgeon referrals if treatment is needed.
Education For Parents & Kids
Children are very inquisitive about everything around them, and this applies to oral health — if they see that their parents care about brushing and flossing, they will too!
That’s why establishing a dental home at a young age is so important. When you visit our practice, we make an effort to not only connect with your child but also build a relationship with you; we offer education and resources that promote healthy habits that lead to good oral hygiene.
When you select Smiling Kidds as your child’s dental care provider, you partner with us and we work together to keep your child’s smile healthy and bright.
